Amid the growing debate over the future of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in ODI cricket, Navjot Singh Sidhu has shown a mirror to Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir with his dramatic tribute to the legendary duo ahead of the white-ball series in Australia.
After Gautam Gambhir refused to give clarity on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s prospects for the ICC World Cup 2027, the former Indian cricketer gave the head coach a reality check. Sidhu said both Virat and Rohit are like the Himalayas of Indian cricket – towering, untouched and unmatched in skill, leadership and influence – and no one can decide their fate.

Navjot Singh Sidhu said on Star Sports, “You know, there are glimpses of Virat Kohli in everything he does, yet that young man has lost his personality and has become someone else.”
“You know the Sumeru mountain which has also changed its place, and then they are just Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. But that is a mountain that will always be there, and just like that, Virat and Rohit’s stature is as high as the Himalayas. They both are as high as the Himalayas.”

Launching a scathing attack on Gambhir, the renowned commentator compared the former Indian captain’s stature to the sun, whose brilliance is undeniable, and argued that his presence has illuminated Indian cricket in a way few others can.
Sidhu said, “What can be a greater gift than this? And this generation is old, which has given gold to this generation, can you see? Will the sun give proof that it is shining? Is its light not proof? I think what they have done is historic.”
