Rohit Sharma’s childhood coach Dinesh Lad wants to see him in the 2027 ODI World Cup. Lad believes that Rohit should keep himself active as a Team India cricketer before the upcoming ODI World Cup.

India vs England after 2ndRa Strong claims are being made about Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the ODI International format after the ODI match to be held in Cardiff on 16th July. It has been strongly mentioned in the media reports that Team India’s match to be held at Lord’s this Sunday will be Rohit’s last match for the Indian national cricket team.

I want Rohit Sharma to play World Cup: Dinesh Lad

Dinesh Lad is also well aware of the ongoing speculations regarding Rohit. Rohit’s childhood coach says that his student should remain active at least till the 2027 ODI World Cup, as he deserves to be included in the team. Lad even said that it is also his dream to see Rohit Sharma play the upcoming World Cup for India.

Dinesh Lad recently told ABP News advisor Ravish Bisht during an interview, “I want Rohit to play the World Cup; my only dream is to see Rohit play in the 2027 World Cup.”

Rohit Sharma’s current form raises concerns

Rohit’s recent form is considered to be one of the reasons why the Indian team management does not want to take him to the next World Cup in 2027. After a good ODI series against Afghanistan in home conditions, the 39-year-old has, so far, failed to play any significant innings against England in the last two matches.

Rohit Sharma’s last 5 matches for India in ODIs:

India vs England: 26 runs in Cardiff

India vs England: 11 runs in Birmingham

India vs Afghanistan: 79 runs in Chennai

India vs Afghanistan: 48 runs in Lucknow

India vs Afghanistan: 16 in Dharamshala

Questions are being raised on Rohit’s form, which is a part of a cricketer’s career. As mentioned by Dinesh Lad, a batsman like Rohit could get his form back soon before the 2027 World Cup.

“There are ups and downs in form, but I want to see him play in the 2027 World Cup,” says the coach.

Will the selectors make a mistake if they force Rohit Sharma to retire?

Whenever Rohit departs from international duties, it will be the end of a chapter. He retired from T20Is soon after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup and from Tests in 2025, ahead of India’s tour of England for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. He has kept himself active for the national cricket team only in the 50-over format; That too may be accomplished soon.

Will the selectors make a big mistake by forcing the batsman into retirement? In response to the question, the veteran coach decided not to utter any words against the Indian cricket team management.

“If he retires, it will definitely be the end of an era. Rohit is a great player. His form has ups and downs, but that doesn’t mean he is a bad player. I can’t comment on the selectors’ thinking, but I want to see him play in the World Cup,” says Lad.
