Former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has given a big update on Jasprit Bumrah’s availability in the upcoming three-match ODI series against the England national cricket team. Karthik believes that Bumrah may miss a match for the India national cricket team due to his busy cricket schedule.
India will take on England for the first ODI on Tuesday and Dinesh Karthik believes that Jasprit Bumrah will miss the second ODI on Thursday, July 16, due to workload management.
Dinesh Karthik gives big update on Jasprit Bumrah’s availability
Speaking on Jasprit Bumrah’s availability, Dinesh Karthik on Sky Sports said that with the speedster in the team, the Men in Blue will look to dominate the series and even win it, and he should play all three matches.
Dinesh Karthik said, “With Bumrah’s return, India will hope for a strong ODI series. He should ideally play all three ODIs and it will be a test for his body as well. However, I would not be surprised if he plays just 14 and 19 and skips 16 if his body is not completely ready.”
When did Jasprit Bumrah last play ODI?
Jasprit Bumrah returned to the ODI team for the first time since the 2023 World Cup final played against Australia on 19 November. Since then, he has not played a single ODI match, mainly because he was injured. He was also rested from the T20 series against Ireland and England.
Bumrah’s return is a positive sign for the team, as he was deliberately rested by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as part of a workload management strategy aimed at keeping him fresh for Test cricket and preparing him for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
He has taken a total of 9 wickets in 4 One Day International matches against England in England. His standout performance was the iconic performance of 6 for 19 at The Oval in July 2022, which is also his best bowling figures in the 50-over format.
The fast bowler returns with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, ending a gap of 968 days since the iconic trio last played together in the 50-over format. Karthik also talked about Rohit and Kohli in the video.
Dinesh Karthik gives update on the future of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma
Karthik feels that the 2027 ODI World Cup will be the last competition for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in their illustrious careers for Team India. The iconic tandem has already retired from Tests and T20Is, and since last year, they have played only 50-over cricket.
Karthik said, “Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will definitely play their last stint in England in this series. The 2027 World Cup will be the last tournament they will play for India in Blues. But with these two, India will definitely have better adaptability during the ODI series, which was missing in the T20Is.”
Virat Kohli could not play in the last ODI series against Afghanistan due to a hamstring injury suffered during the IPL 2026 final. Rohit Sharma played the series and managed to score a half-century and looked in good touch.
