Shoaib Akhtar clarifies on comments about Mohsin Naqvi: Pakistan cricket is under heavy scrutiny and criticism after its embarrassing 61-run defeat against India. Former Pakistan cricketers and journalists have criticized Salman Ali Aga’s team for its dreadful performance in the 2026 T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka. Some people have also raised questions towards Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Just a day after Pakistan’s crushing defeat to India in the T20 World Cup, former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar has taken a U-turn on his comments against Mohsin Naqvi, calling him “a good man”.
Shoaib Akhtar clarified on his statement on Mohsin Naqvi
His words were largely taken as a strong attack on the PCB chairman. He said that Indian TV stations misinterpreted his statements and that he never intended to defame the PCB chairman.
Shoaib Akhtar clarified his comments, saying, “My comments were never directed at Mohsin Naqvi. The comment about incompetence was not directed at him at all – it was at the top officials running international cricket. Some Indian TV channels twisted my words.”
“At the same programme, I asked people not to say anything negative about Mohsin Bhai, because I will not tolerate it. I have always said that he is a good person who genuinely wants to help Pakistan cricket. But at the same time, he is not always given the right advice.”
Shoaib Akhtar took a dig at Pakistan cricket
This clarification comes after his direct dig at the PCB chairman and the PCB management during a post-match show on an Indian TV channel. After the defeat against India, Shoaib Akhtar took a dig at the functioning of the PCB and the leadership that oversees Pakistan cricket. He took a dig at the potential risks of placing inexperienced people in management positions.
He later claimed that poor decision-making at the top ultimately has consequences on the field as well. However, his comment was misunderstood by many as they believed it was directed towards PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, causing a stir.
Mohsin Naqvi has been in the headlines even before the match started. He is in the news after Pakistan announced to boycott the game against India. Then later they take a U-turn and play the match. Seeing Pakistan’s poor batting during the match, he left the field even before the end of the match.
Mohsin Naqvi is unhappy with some players of Pakistan
After poor performance in the most important match against India, Mohsin Naqvi is also angry with some senior cricketers of the team. However, as Shoaib Akhtar tries to turn the corner, the big question remains about the direction of Pakistan cricket.
As they have now lost 6 consecutive games against India in all competitions. After winning last Sunday, India now lead 8-1 in nine matches against their arch-rivals in the T20 World Cup format.
Pakistan, after their defeat against the Men in Blue, will be entering their final game against Namibia on Wednesday which is a possible knockout as if they lose this game they will be out of the competition as their run rate has turned negative after their defeat against India.
