Former India captain Diana Edulji has demanded the dismissal of head coach Amol Majumdar and captain Harmanpreet Kaur after the India women’s national cricket team failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England.

The India women’s national cricket team enters the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 with high expectations after winning the ODI World Cup on home soil last year. This led many to expect another memorable ICC campaign, but things did not go according to plan.

Diana Edulji demands major changes after India’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 disaster under Harmanpreet Kaur

After a disappointing campaign, Diana Edulji has demanded major changes in the team. She believes that if the India women’s national cricket team is to become a strong force in T20 cricket again, it needs new thinking, new leadership and a different approach.

Edulji believes that the team cannot use the same game plan in both ODI and T20 cricket. The former captain emphasized that T20 cricket needs a different mentality. She also wants India to have separate teams for ODIs and T20s as both the formats require different players and strategies.

RevSportz quoted Diana Edulji as saying, “Yes, absolutely. I have said this before. Certainly we need a change not only in the leadership but also in the support staff. I will not specifically name anyone to take over; it is for the selectors to decide. But there is definitely a need for a change because the ideas have become completely stagnant now, and so we also need fresh minds, fresh ideas and a fresh approach.”

BCCI should no longer treat the women’s team like children: Diana Edulji

He also questioned why the women’s team should continue with the same system when the men’s team already has different leadership for different formats.

“Don’t we have this divided captaincy in the men’s team? We have Shubham Gill in Tests and 50-overs, and Shreyas (Iyer) now (as T20I captain). If we can take a decision on Surya (Suryakumar Yadav) after winning the World Cup and dropping him, why not here too? I think the BCCI should not treat the women’s team like children anymore,” Edulji pointed out.

The former Indian captain criticized the team’s poor fielding in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, saying the players have no skill. He said that missed catches and poor fielding are nothing new and he blamed the coaching staff for these mistakes.

Diana Edulji demands immediate Center of Excellence camp for fast bowlers

He called for at least a month’s camp on fitness and fielding and asked the players to come out of their comfort zone. Expressing concern over India’s fast bowling department, the former captain suggested that the BCCI’s Center of Excellence should organize a special camp for around 10 talented fast bowlers from across the country to help them build a strong fast attack.

Edulji said, “I think the CoE (BCCI’s Center of Excellence) should take over the fast bowlers and make them fit because after Jhulan (Goswami) I don’t think anyone will be suitable for this role. Nandini Sharma was doing well in the WPL, but hardly got any opportunity. You are in one match, out of one match. That does not boost any bowler’s confidence. So, we need to have a special camp only for fast bowlers. We need about 10 players.” Fast bowlers from all over the country.”
