Devon Conway leaves New Zealand camp for family emergency
Just days before New Zealand’s vital second Test win against England, Devon Conway returned to Wellington after traveling thousands of miles to be with his family for the birth of his second child.
Devon and his wife Kim Conway are all set to welcome their second one, and the batsman decided to be with his teammates during one of the most special moments of his life instead of staying with his teammates in England during the long break.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has officially announced that Conway has returned home, and are confident that the star batsman will return to England in time and be available for the second Test at The Oval as they look to bounce back in the ongoing WTC Test series.
“Blackcaps batsman Devon Conway has returned to New Zealand for a short period of time to welcome the birth of his second child. Conway will spend some time at home with the family before returning to London ahead of the second Test against England at The Oval, starting on Wednesday, June 17,” NZC said in a statement.
Tom Latham issues big fitness update on Matt Henry
Meanwhile, the New Zealand team has been given a short break after the first Test at Lord’s. The players will reconvene at The Oval for training ahead of the second match against England.
There is some concern over fast bowler Matt Henry, who was struggling with back spasms during the opening Test. The team is closely monitoring his recovery and is hopeful that he will be fit by next week and ready for selection for the crucial second Test in London.
New Zealand captain Tom Latham said of Henry: “I think it’s day-by-day with Henry. He continues to progress the way he has from day one to where he is now.” [on day four]. We hope he’s got a little extra time now to get it right, and then, fingers crossed, we’ll have a full bowling attack to choose from again.
Amid the crucial Test series, England are grappling with an off-field controversy involving captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson. Both players were dropped from the team after a late night nightclub incident; Joe Root is ready to captain the host team in the second Test against New Zealand. Nevertheless, Stuart Broad has backed Ben Stokes to lead England in the 2027 Ashes.
