Bhuvneshwar Kumar shared some pictures after his second successful IPL campaign. Overall, the fast bowler now has two IPL trophies. He could have also won the Purple Cap with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2026, but missed out by just one wicket.
While Kumar tried to shed some light on his achievements in the league, it was his RCB teammate Devdutt Padikkal who added a little hilarity to the post with a comment on Instagram.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar proved that class is permanent
Kumar was one of the most lethal bowlers throughout the IPL 2026 season. The fast bowler, now 36, has emerged as one of the best in the business with his ability to swing the ball both ways and control the line and length. He finished the season with 28 wickets in 16 matches and an economy rate of only 7.95.
Gujarat Titans fast bowler Kagiso Rabada won the Purple Cap for taking the most wickets this season. The South African bowler took 29 wickets in 17 matches, one more than Bhuvneshwar Kumar and won the individual title.
GT’s Kagiso Rabada captured the Purple Cap by a margin of one wicket
In the final match of Gujarat Titans vs Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL 2026, Kagiso Rabada scored 44 runs in 3 overs but got Devdutt Padikkal out of the crease. Because of that wicket of Padikkal, Bhuvneshwar had to lose the purple cap.

Padikkal commented on Kumar’s Instagram post on June 3, “Sorry for missing cap Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) bhai.” At the time of writing the article, this comment has already received 6416 likes, as most cricket fans find it funny.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar won his first IPL championship with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2016. As always, with his venomous swing and well-controlled bowling, he played a vital role in driving the team’s victory. Bhuvneshwar finished the 2016 season as the leading wicket-taker in the tournament, taking 23 wickets and earning the coveted Purple Cap.
A decade ago, Bhuvneshwar was in another IPL final against RCB
Sunrisers Hyderabad faced Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2016 final. It was a high-scoring contest at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. In the second innings, Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli made a great start to the run chase. Maintaining a strike rate of 200.00, Gayle scored 76 runs off 38 balls, while Virat scored 54 runs off 35 balls.
When RCB’s opening pair was in the middle, the match seemed one-sided. But as soon as both Gayle and Kohli were out, Bengaluru’s batting order collapsed. In reply to SRH’s 208, Royal Challengers Bengaluru scored 200 in 20 overs and finished the season as the second best finishers of the tournament.
In that summit clash, the then Sunrisers Hyderabad bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar did not take any wicket but did not allow the opposition batsmen to score runs freely. In his four-over spell, the seamer conceded only 25 runs and maintained an economy rate of 6.25. In 2016, Kumar had both the IPL trophy and the Purple Cap.
A decade later, he could have repeated the same if he had taken one more wicket in his journey in the IPL 2026 season.
