Chennai Super Kings (CSK) signed South African batsman Developed Bravis as an injury replacement through the IPL 2025 season. According to the Times of India, England cricketer Johnny Bairstow was initially considered, but CSK head coach Fleming supported Brevis, and MS Dhoni approved the verdict.
Developed Bravis joined the Chennai Super Kings as an injury replacement for Gurjapneet Singh, the franchise received him for Rs 2.2 crore. The young batsman scored 225 runs in six matches, including two fifties. He also received a call-up to the national team after nine months of absence.

The report stated that the earlier struggles of Bravis against Spin had raised doubts, but the team was excluded from the playoff dispute, the franchise saw it as an opportunity to experiment and give young talent an opportunity.
“He looked a suspicious against spin in the first two sessions, and the player’s data did not make some special suggestions. But out with an injury with Ruturaj Gikwad, we were lacking the top capacity, and there was no chance to make a play-off, there was scope to experiment,” the source said.

Dewald Brevis had limited experience before the IPL 2025 season. He played only 10 matches in two sessions for Mumbai Indians (MI). None of the franchisees showed his interest during the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Coach Stephen Fleming decided to return Bravis, and MS Dhoni gave his approval, relying on the youth’s capacity. Brevis played a significant innings against teams like SRH, KKR and Gujarat Titans with a knock of 42 runs off 25 balls in a low scoring match at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
