Despite BCCI’s instructions, Yashasvi Jaiswal will not play Vijay Hazare Trophy; here’s why

Team India opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal’s participation in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy is in doubt as he was admitted to hospital due to severe gastroenteritis. The left-handed batsman suffered severe stomach cramps during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match between Mumbai and Rajasthan in Pune on December 16.

After the match, Jaiswal was taken to hospital for further treatment. He batted in pain during Mumbai’s chase at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Before getting out, he scored 15 runs in 16 balls and hit three fours.

At the hospital, Jaiswal underwent a CT scan and ultrasound. Doctors diagnosed him with acute gastroenteritis and advised him to take complete rest. His recovery will be closely monitored before any decision is taken on his return.

After food poisoning, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s weight reduced by more than 2 kg.

According to a report in Times of India, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been discharged from the hospital and has returned to Mumbai after recovering from food poisoning. In a very short time, his weight reduced by more than two kilos and doctors have advised him to take complete rest.

The problem started when he had something at the team hotel in Pune. Although his condition has improved with timely treatment, the medical staff has advised him to stay away from cricket for at least seven to ten days to recover completely.

A source following the developments told TimesofIndia.com, “It is food poisoning. He consumed something in a Pune hotel which led to this condition. There was pain but after taking medicine on time, his condition is much better. His weight has reduced by more than 2 kg in the last two days and doctors have asked him to take rest for at least the next 7-10 days.”

Yashasvi Jaiswal is doubtful to play in the initial matches of Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Yashasvi Jaiswal will not be fully fit for the opening matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, with his recovery expected to take at least a week. He is doubtful for Mumbai’s opening match against Sikkim on December 24, where he was expected to open with Rohit Sharma.

The report said that his participation in the initial stages will depend on how quickly he regains strength. With Jaiswal likely to be a part of the ODI squad against New Zealand, his workload and recovery will be carefully managed.

“It will be difficult for him to play the first few matches for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. After that there are ODIs against New Zealand and he is likely to be in the squad for that series,” the source said.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was last seen in action for India during the South Africa ODI series

Yashasvi Jaiswal was last seen playing for India in the ODI series against South Africa. The left-handed batsman did not have a good start and struggled to score runs in the first two matches. He made his comeback in the final ODI on 6 December in Visakhapatnam.

Chasing the target of 271, Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 116, his first century in the 50-over format. He also made an opening partnership of 155 runs with Rohit Sharma. India won easily by nine wickets.

The left-handed batsman scored 156 runs in three matches at an average of 78 and a strike rate of 89.14. The ODI series against New Zealand will start from January 11. Notably, the BCCI medical team is closely monitoring his fitness ahead of that series, and he may find it challenging to make it into the playing eleven.
