Delhi Capitals star and uncapped Indian batting all-rounder Ashutosh Sharma has secured a new deal in UK domestic cricket. The budding all-rounder will feature for the Hampshire cricket team in this year’s One Day Cup.
On 20 July, Hampshire confirmed the contract with Ashutosh Sharma ahead of the opening day of the one-day cup tournament for the 2026 season against Yorkshire at Scarborough on Tuesday.

Hampshire confirm Ashutosh Sharma for 2026 ODI Cup
Ashutosh Sharma will join Hampshire in 2026 after another enjoyable Indian Premier League season with Delhi Capitals. Delhi Capitals, also co-owned by Hampshire owners GMR Group, spotted the raw talent and got the deal done with ease.
In the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2024 season, he played two straight seasons for the Capitals in 2025 and 2026. In the IPL 2025 and 2026 seasons, the 27-year-old has scored 204 and 171 runs with a strike rate of 160.62 and 181.91 respectively.
Hampshire’s director of cricket Giles White said that he found Sharma to be an extremely powerful talent who has performed very well for Delhi Capitals. His IPL 2026 performances hinted at a potential quality career for the batsman in the future. The UK club is hoping to see Sharma in key roles for the team in the upcoming ODI Cup.
“We are really happy to sign Ashutosh for the One-Day Cup. He is a player with great potential and has performed well for Delhi Capitals in the recent IPL, so knows what it looks like to perform at a high level.”
“We are looking forward to welcoming him to the group and seeing what he can do in a Hampshire shirt as we look to go one step further in the competition than last year,” Giles White said in the official release.
Ashutosh Sharma has previous experience of playing for UK clubs
The talent from Madhya Pradesh has previous experience of playing for several clubs in the United Kingdom. Ashutosh Sharma, who has scored 458 List A runs in 21 matches, showcased his batting skills by registering a century for Wigan just hours after landing in the UK for Liverpool in the 2025 league.
Sharma first appeared in the country’s club cricket in 2017, when he took the field for Middlesex Titans. In the 2022 and 2023 seasons, the lower-middle-order batsman was part of the Gravesend team.
Hampshire will be one of the leading contenders to win this season’s One Day Cup trophy after finishing the last campaign as runners-up.
Hampshire have also secured two further signings
The BBC reported on 20 July that Hampshire had added two fast bowlers, Harry Petrie and Ollie Williams, to their squad for the upcoming One-Day Cup season.
23-year-old fast bowler Petrie broke into the team this summer on the back of impressive bowling performances for the Second XI. He emerged as the leading wicket-taker in the Second XI T20 competition.
Another new face to the team, Williams, who is only 19, is in his second year at the club’s academy, according to media reports.
