Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma has become the joint-highest wicket-taker in women’s international cricket. She reached the historic milestone after taking one wicket for 26 runs in her three-over spell against Netherlands Women in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 clash on Wednesday.
By dismissing Phebe Molkenbauer during the match, Deepti has equaled Jhulan Goswami’s record of taking most wickets in women’s international cricket. Now both Goswami and Deepti have 355 international wickets to their name.
She is followed by some of the biggest names in women’s cricket – England’s Katherine Sciver-Brunt with 335 wickets, Australian legend Ellyse Perry with 332 wickets, England spinner Sophie Ecclestone with 327 wickets and South African fast bowler Shabnim Ismail with 318 wickets.

Well, Deepti Sharma has been one of India’s most successful bowlers across all formats. She has taken 166 wickets in 124 ODI matches and is behind only Jhulan Goswami, who leads India’s ODI wicket charts with 255 wickets.
Deepti Sharma is currently the world’s leading wicket-taker in T20I cricket with 167 wickets in 146 matches. He has also impressed in Test cricket and has taken 22 wickets in just six matches for India.
India top Group A after beating Netherlands by 95 runs
Speaking about the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group A matches, India women’s national cricket team once again showed complete dominance after defeating Pakistan in the opening match of the tournament. Batting first, she scored a mammoth score of 209/5, which became her highest ever score in the history of Women’s T20 World Cup.
Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma gave a great start to India against the Netherlands bowlers in Leeds. While Mandhana played an excellent and aggressive inning of 74 runs in 47 balls with the help of 11 fours and one six, Shefali played a brilliant inning of 55 runs in 38 balls with the help of 10 fours.
Richa Ghosh also contributed unbeaten 20 runs in just 8 balls, taking the team beyond 200 runs. Caroline de Lange was the best bowler for the Netherlands against India with 2/32 in 4 overs.
After Mandhana-Shefali storm, Shri Charani wreaked havoc
Defending the target, Sri Charani turned the game around with an excellent spell of 4/19, while Shafali also surprised everyone with the ball, taking 3/20 against the Netherlands. Nandini Sharma also took 2/22 as Netherlands were bowled out for just 114 runs.
With a 95-run win over Netherlands, India moved to the top of Group A in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 with four points.
