28-year-old India women’s national cricket team all-rounder Deepti Sharma has broken all records and become the first cricketer in history to achieve a remarkable feat.
Deepti Sharma set the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 on fire and with her brilliant batting and bowling, she helped India Women win the marquee tournament.
Deepti Sharma became the first player to achieve a historic double
The Uttar Pradesh-born cricketer has come a long way in cricket, and after years of heartbreak, she managed to post an all-time performance and win the title at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
In the 2017 World Cup final, she was out when India needed 11 out of 12 and in 2022, when South Africa needed 3 out of 2 in a must-win match, she had Mignon du Preez caught out, but unfortunately, she overstepped and it turned out to be a no-ball.
However, Deepti did not make such mistakes in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 and made tremendous contributions from the first game to the last game.
In the final, she scored 58 and returned with figures of 5/39. With this, she became the first cricketer to score a half-century and take a five-wicket haul in a World Cup knockout game. Overall, she became the second Indian after Yuvraj Singh to achieve an outstanding double in a 50-over World Cup.
Deepti Sharma finished the tournament with 22 wickets at 20.40 and 215 runs at 30.71 in 9 innings. This helped her become the first player – male or female – to score 200 runs and take 20 wickets in an edition of the World Cup.
Most wickets in Women’s ODI World Cup edition
23 – Lynn Fulston(AUS-W) in 1982
22 – Jackie Lord (NZ-W) in 1982
22 – Deepti Sharma (IND-W) in 2025
To be honest, we still cannot believe this result – Deepti Sharma
Deepti Sharma received the Player of the Tournament award after the win and while speaking to the broadcasters she said that winning the World Cup feels like a dream. Deepti said:
“To be honest, we still can’t believe this result. It feels like a dream. But very happy that I could contribute like this today. We always try to take positive things out of the match.”
“The fans should also be thanked, they came in huge numbers today because they support us in every game. Without them this would not have been possible, thanks to them. As a team we are feeling very good after this result. (What is your reaction to the challenges?) I always enjoy whatever department I am in. I am in any position because I love challenges. Today, I got the same thing with the ball in my hand and the bat in my hand.”

And finally I would like to dedicate this trophy to my mom and dad – Deepti Sharma
Deepti Sharma further said that she wanted to play as per the situation in the World Cup final and the entire tournament and dedicated her award to her parents. He elaborated:
“I had to play according to that situation. And I enjoyed it a lot. And what could be a better moment than to go on stage and perform as an all-rounder for your team. Nothing could be more amazing than that. (What conversations happened when Laura was batting so well?) I think Laura played a very good innings to be honest. But we were nowhere relaxed. We were very cool. Whenever there was a drinks break we were always at each other’s side.” Used to make happy.
“And as a bowling unit, we were talking that we have to go till the last ball. And we have to focus more on our best ball. And that’s what we did. (What changes would you like to see for the future?) There have been a lot of changes since 2017. And I would like to say that if we play more number of matches from now, it would be good. And finally I would like to dedicate this trophy to my mom and dad.”
