Both teams have had a similar campaign so far, with both standing at the seventh and eighth positions with two wins and four losses. The upcoming match will be their 40th meeting in the history of the Indian Premier League.

Deepak Chahar He often credits MS Dhoni for giving direction to his career during his time at CSK. During a recent practice session, the Mumbai Indians pacer approached his mentor for an informal chat, but Dhoni immediately noticed the nearby social media team recording him.
Dhoni showed his trademark humor by pointing at the camera and jokingly asked the Mumbai Indians cameraman to go away. The wicketkeeper batsman said that recording them would not allow genuine personal conversations.
Dhoni quipped, “You came, you brought the camera with you… drive him away.”
“Hey friend brother, you go.” Chahar replied to the cameraman in a funny manner.
“Yes, otherwise we won’t be able to talk,” Dhoni said with a bright smile.

CSK needs MS Dhoni back; Ruturaj Gaikwad is struggling with batting form
Chennai Super Kings I desperately need MS Dhoni back on the field. He missed the first six games due to a pre-season calf injury. In the 2025 season, Dhoni averaged 24.50 and strike rate 135.17 in 14 matches.
Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has had to struggle with the responsibilities of leadership. He has scored 82 runs at an average of 13.66 and strike rate of 112.32 and has not scored more than 30 runs in six innings during IPL 2026.
Gaikwad also has a poor captaincy record since taking over ahead of the 2024 season. He has won only 10 matches in 25 matches as CSK captain, which has increased the pressure on the team before this important match.

Deepak Chahar had a mixed bag ipl 2026 season with Mumbai Indians, where he primarily served as a powerplay bowler. He achieved a remarkable feat in IPL history by taking 16 wickets in the very first over. However, his performances this season were inconsistent.
Chahar gave 22 runs without taking any wicket in the first over against Rajasthan Royals (RR). He again had a tough performance against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Wankhede Stadium, conceding 21 runs in the first over. These expensive spells affected his overall effectiveness.
He finished with figures of 1/20 from three overs against Delhi Capitals (DC). However, repeated costly overs threw the team off balance and ultimately led to his exclusion from the playing eleven due to poor performance.
