Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has always been in the headlines due to its team composition, match fixing scandals or its players fighting in public places. Recently, they have come into limelight again when former Australian player David Warner looked a bit disappointed and irritated just before the start of the upcoming edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) from Thursday, which has now become a huge headline in international cricket.
A few days ago, we heard worrying news that players are putting more emphasis on the Indian Premier League (IPL) than the Pakistan Super League. Both the leagues are falling in almost the same window due to the recently concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Due to this clash many international stars are withdrawing from their respective PSL teams to be a part of the 19th edition of IPL, which is a matter of great concern for the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Not only this, a few weeks ago another news came that the league could be organized behind closed doors. The reason for this is the ongoing fuel crisis in the country and the war between West Asian countries, which has affected the entire region. Amidst this, an undisclosed resignation took place over the Pakistan Cricket Board’s policy on its employees. This includes former captain and selector Sarfaraz Ahmed and women’s team mentor Wahab Riaz, who were banned from working for franchises in the Pakistan Super League while on the payroll of the board.
David Warner did not look happy!
Legendary southpaw batsman David Warner is considered one of the most destructive T20 batsmen across the world. After retiring from international cricket, he has enjoyed the gentleman’s game by participating in various global leagues several times. However, Karachi Kings captain David Warner was clearly irritated with his fellow captains during the pre-tournament captains’ press conference.
What was the incident?
The incident happened when David Warner was talking about his team’s prospects and their strategy for the season. While he was talking, Marnus Labuschagne (Hyderabad Kingsmen), Shaheen Shah Afridi (Lahore Qalandars), Mohammad Rizwan (Rawalpindi), Babar Azam (Peshawar Zalmi), and Saud Shakeel (Quetta Gladiators) were busy discussing something else and laughing among themselves.
At that time Warner became very irritated and upset. He went up to them and asked what was wrong, and said, “Sorry gentlemen, we’ve got schoolchildren here.” This statement expressed his disappointment over the lack of seriousness in the meeting.
Unique statement of Pakistan Minister
Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has shared a very unique statement. He said the country’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has requested the entire Pakistan to “restrict their movements” due to the severe fuel crisis, reports ESPNcricinfo. This crisis has had a deep impact on the tournament.
The PSL has been reduced from the original six venues to just two. Now, all matches are to be played only in Lahore and Karachi to save fuel and transportation costs. Additionally, the grand opening ceremony held in Lahore has also been cancelled.
Describing the gloomy situation, Naqvi said, “The Prime Minister requested the entire Pakistan to restrict their activities due to the fuel crisis. We closed schools and started working from home and increased the number of Eid holidays. We do not know how long this war will last.”
Despite these huge odds, the PSL is scheduled to begin on March 26, with the final taking place on May 3. The world is watching whether the PCB will be able to organize this tournament amid such a global and internal crisis. The opening match will be played between the defending champions Lahore Qalandars against the new franchise Hyderabad Kingsmen at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
