Sydney Thunder captain David Warner suffered an injury while batting during the match against Brisbane Heat in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26. Wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings said the injury looked more serious than he first thought and believed Warner had injured his quad.
Sydney Thunder scored a total of 180 runs for six wickets in their 20 overs after electing to bat first at the Gabba on Saturday, January 10. David Warner was in great form and was on his way to a century, but his innings ended in the 16th over when he was run out after scoring 82 runs in 56 balls.

David Warner did not come to field in the second innings. He had suffered an injury while batting earlier and also suffered cramps in hot conditions. He looked uncomfortable towards the end of his innings, so the team decided not to risk him.
Chris Green has taken over the captaincy of Sydney Thunder in Warner’s absence. Sam Konstas has come in as a substitute fielder. Brisbane Heat started the chase and captain Usman Khawaja opened the batting with Jack Wildermuth.
“Unfortunately I think he’s done his job.”

He has completed his quad – Sam Billings on David Warner
During the break after the first over of Brisbane Heat’s innings, Sam Billings spoke to the commentators on the mic and gave an update on David Warner.
He said the injury looked to be more serious than first thought and he believed Warner had injured his quad. Billings also clarified that the injury occurred before the run-out and admitted that it was not an ideal situation for the team.
,I think it might be a little worse than that. Unfortunately, I think he’s done his job. So, yes, not ideal. And by the way, before I ran him out, Billings said.
