David Warner made many records against Hobart Hurricanes
David Warner rewrote several milestones in a single innings against Hobart Hurricanes. He hit nine sixes, the second most ever by a Sydney Thunder batsman in a BBL innings. This innings also became the highest individual score for Sydney Thunder in the competition.
At the age of 39 years and 68 days, Warner became the oldest player to score a century in BBL history. Notably, this was his second highest score in T20 cricket, behind his 135 for New South Wales in 2011.
On the basis of Warner’s innings, Sydney Thunder scored 205 runs for 4 wickets, which is their second highest score till date against Hobart Hurricanes. This knock was special because so many records were broken in a single night.
We took a little inspiration from Blueprint… – David Warner
Expressing satisfaction over his team crossing the 200-run mark, Warner said that the batsmen followed a better plan instead of forcing shots. Warner said that reaching such a big score felt rewarding, but he also said that he did not want to think too far ahead about the result.
“It feels great (to reach a score of over 200). I said at the beginning of the game that we took a bit of inspiration from the blueprint used by the Sixers against us. Normally when we bat, we lose wickets trying to be too aggressive,” Warner said.
“But today, if you keep your shape and stay positive, you can score freely. Reaching 200 is a great feeling. (On whether he has done enough today to ensure his second win this season) I am still a bit hesitant to think too far ahead. It is about supporting myself, going out there and playing my natural game.”
