Suddenly, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans got an unexpected, disturbing moment during the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 match when their expensive uncapped bowler Prashant Veer suffered a shock on the field and was later taken to the hospital for further medical procedures.
Veer suffered the injury, which could be a grade-2 injury, during the ongoing Jharkhand vs Uttar Pradesh Ranji Trophy match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium B Ground in Lucknow just before lunch. The uncapped Indian cricketer dived to the ground to stop the ball, which was hit firmly by Jharkhand batsman Shikhar Mohan. Veer stops the ball but injures himself.
Prashant Veer’s injury leaves CSK fans disappointed
The incident occurred in the 30th over of the first innings, just before the lunch break. The 20-year-old cricketer from Amethi lay motionless on the ground for a while and held his shoulder, which caused quite a panic among cricket fans, especially CSK fans as their favorite franchise had invested a lot of money relying heavily on his talent.
It is reported that CSK recruit Veer was taken to the hospital for further medical attention and is unlikely to take any further part in the match. His right shoulder may have been injured due to landing awkwardly on the ground.
When he returned to the stadium, his shoulder was supported by a sling. Due to injury he may remain out of the field for 3 weeks.
Prashant Veer out of cricket action
“When he was immediately given a painkiller spray, Weir was stretchered off the field and taken to hospital for a scan. When he returned, his arm was in a sling. He is unlikely to play any further role in the match,” reported ESPNcricinfo.
It was further reported, “It is understood that Weir has suffered a Grade-2 tear, which could keep him out of action for at least three weeks.”
The left-handed all-rounder, known for his hitting abilities, hit the jackpot when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bought him for a whopping ₹14.2 crore in the IPL 2026 auction, making him one of the most expensive uncapped players in IPL history, along with Karthik Sharma becoming a high-profile young signing for the franchise. Veer received a record-setting pay check with a lot of expectations ahead of the league.
Jharkhand is at the forefront in this race
In the Jharkhand vs Uttar Pradesh Ranji Trophy match, Jharkhand are quite comfortably in the driving seat at the moment, as they still have 9 wickets in hand after scoring 285 runs after playing 88 overs. For them, the opening pair of Mohan and Sharandeep Singh made a partnership of 147 runs.
Singh scored his second first-class century and remained unbeaten after the first day, while Mohan was out after scoring 78 runs. Currently, Sharandeep Singh is at the crease along with No. 3 batsman Aryaman Sen, who has already scored a half-century.
