captain of puducherry Aman Khanwho recently made headlines after being elected Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Found itself in the headlines for a completely different reason, during the IPL 2026 auction Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 match. The encounter against Jharkhand held in Ahmedabad turned out to be a challenging day for the all-rounder as he set an unwanted record in men’s List A cricket.
Winning the toss, Puducherry chose to bowl first, hoping their team could take advantage of the early conditions. However, the decision did not go as planned as Jharkhand’s batsmen dominated from the start, keeping Puducherry under pressure throughout the innings.
Jharkhand scored runs against Puducherry
Thanks to several excellent batting performances, Jharkhand scored a huge score of 368 runs for 7 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Utkarsh Singh led the innings with 74 runs and provided stability at the top. Captain Kumar Kushagra led from the front, displaying both composure and power, scoring 105 runs which included 10 fours and two sixes.
The real momentum shift came from Anukul Roy, who played a blistering unbeaten inning of 98 runs off just 53 balls. His innings included seven fours and eight sky-high sixes, which completely demolished the Puducherry bowling attack in the death overs. Mohammad Kounain Qureshi also played a quickfire 43 off 35 balls, ensuring Jharkhand finished with one of the highest totals of the tournament season.
Puducherry’s target could not be achieved
Facing a difficult target, Puducherry never really looked in control in the chase. Jashwant Sriram provided some resistance with a fighting 60, while Nayan Shyam Kangayan contributed 47 runs. Despite these efforts, wickets continued to fall at regular intervals and the required run rate quickly became out of reach.
Ultimately Puducherry was bowled out for 235 runs and suffered a heavy defeat by 133 runs. Although the defeat was significant in itself, the match will be remembered more for what happened during Jharkhand’s innings.
Aman Khan’s record breaking magic
After giving 10 overs, 1 wicket and 123 runs, the attention of the cricket world went towards Aman Khan. This spell is now officially the most expensive in the history of men’s List A cricket. The previous record was in the name of Arunachal Pradesh fast bowler Mibom Mosu, who had given 116 runs in nine overs against Bihar last month.
Aman’s IPL journey so far
Despite this setback, Aman’s career trajectory remains remarkable. Bought for Rs 40 lakh in the IPL 2026 auction, he has already represented multiple franchises. After making his IPL debut with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2022, he featured for Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2023 before landing with Chennai for the upcoming season.
In 11 IPL matches across two seasons, Aman has scored 115 runs at a strike rate of 110.57, including one half-century. His bowling opportunities in the league so far have been limited, with only one over bowled and no wickets to his name.
While the Vijay Hazare Trophy performance was forgettable, the coming months will be crucial for Aman Khan as he looks to regroup, hone his skills and justify the faith shown in him ahead of IPL 2026.
