Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has released an official statement about the contract of Developed Brevis after the recent revelation of veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. The franchise confirmed that all processes fully followed the rules and regulations of the league to sign Brevis as a replacement player in IPL 2025.
Ravichandran Ashwin revealed that Brevis received a contract with Chennai Super Kings above his base price. In particular, Brevis was signed as an injury replacement for Gurjapneet Singh for ₹ 2.20 crore in IPL 2025, the same amount CSK paid the Tamil Nadu left hand pacer during the mega auction.

“Chennai Super Kings clearly clarify that the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was a replacement player as a replacement player during the signature process of Developed Brevis, all the action by the franchise was in full compliance with IPL rules and regulations,” read the official statement.
The five-time Champions statement further read, “Developed Brevis was fully signed as per IPL Player Regulation 2025-27, especially 6.6 Claus 6.6,” under ‘Replacement Players’.
IPL rules explained on replacement player signature
Chennai Super Kings confirmed that his signature by Developed Brevis followed Claus 6.6 on ‘Replacement Players’ in IPL Player Regulation 2025-27. The rule states that any replacement should be contracted for league fee which is no more than the injured or unavailable player.
“A replacement player signed either for paragraphs 6.1 or 6.2, can be recruited at a league fee, which will not exceed the league fee that will be payable to the injured/unavailable player for the respective season. If a replacement player is recruited during a season, the player is paid to reduce.”
