Ahead of the mini auction, there is speculation about Sanju Samson’s future with Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). As per the latest news, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are unlikely to include Samson for the next edition, making an off-season switch unlikely at this stage.
Samson’s IPL 2025 campaign was hampered by injuries, preventing him from completing the entire season. After starting as an impact player in the initial fixtures, he suffered an abdominal injury during the clash with Delhi Capitals. Star lost five matches in the tournament and RR failed to reach the playoffs.

Speculation over Samson’s future with Rajasthan Royals intensified after the report in July 2025. Chennai Super Kings expressed interest in signing him for the 2026 IPL season. A CSK official hinted that the franchise would make a move if Samson became available.
Samson, who debuted for Rajasthan Royals in 2013, spent three seasons there before joining Delhi during RR’s suspension. He returned in 2018 and became captain in 2021, leading the team to runner-up finish in 2022. The team failed to make the playoffs in two of the last three seasons.
In IPL 2025, Samson scored 285 runs at a strike rate of 140.39. Riyan Parag captained the team during his absence. There are rumors that RR may consider a change in captaincy for the next season.
CSK no longer has much interest in Sanju Samson – Journalist
Speaking on his YouTube channel, journalist Rohit Juglan revealed that a trade between Sanju Samson and CSK is unlikely. He said CSK initially showed interest, but the discussions lost momentum when RR requested two specific players in exchange.
Juglan said, “CSK is no longer much interested in Sanju Samson. The deal with Sanju Samson is completely over. At one time, CSK was as interested in him as RR was. It also seemed that CSK would join the deal and things would move forward.”
“But things started going wrong with the two players that RR asked for. It didn’t get as bad as the conflict, but the deal slowly fell apart. Now, CSK don’t feel they need that kind of option in their team where they need a wicketkeeper-batsman.”
Rajasthan Royals demand that Sanju Samson be stopped from joining Chennai Super Kings.
Rajasthan Royals reportedly requested for either Ravindra Jadeja or Ruturaj Gaikwad in exchange and Chennai immediately rejected the offer. Shivam Dubey’s name was also in the news, but CSK made it clear that they are not willing to release any key player.
Unless CSK renegotiate or pursue him in the next auction, Samson’s move to Chennai looks unlikely. Several teams have held discussions for the wicketkeeper-batsman, increasing the chances of another franchise securing his services.
Samson reportedly asked the Royals management to release him. However, his future still depends on the decision of the franchise. There was also a disagreement between Samson and the RR management over the release of Jos Buttler ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
