The IPL 2026 auction has started with a lot of excitement and high bidding, but not every big name found a buyer. Some talented players, including India’s Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan, went unsold at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
In the first set of players, explosive opener Prithvi Shaw remained unsold despite his recent stellar performances in domestic cricket. Shaw is in good form and it was expected that many franchises would be interested in him, but no team showed interest in him in the auction.
Prithvi Shaw remains unsold in IPL 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi
The Mumbai-born batsman entered the auction with a base price of ₹75 lakh, but no franchise showed interest. Shaw had already gone unsold in the 2025 mega auction when Delhi Capitals (DC) released him, while he was retained for ₹6 crore last season.

Shaw’s IPL journey began in 2018 when Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) picked him up for ₹1.2 crore. He came into the IPL fresh after leading India to the Under-19 World Cup title and made an immediate impact. In his second IPL match, he played a quick inning of 62 runs in 44 balls.
Over the years, Shaw has been a key player for the Delhi franchise. In 79 IPL matches, he has scored 1,892 runs including 14 fifties for DC. His aggressive batting style was much appreciated at one time.
Sarfaraz Khan fails to attract bids despite form in IPL 2026 auction
Another notable name to remain unsold was Mumbai’s hard-hitting batsman Sarfaraz Khan. The experienced batsman is in sensational form in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025. Yet, despite several record-breaking performances, Sarfaraz did not find any takers in the IPL 2026 auction.
In the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, the right-handed batsman scored 329 runs in seven innings at an incredible strike rate of 203.08. He has already scored three half-centuries and his maiden T20 century, which shows how dangerous he is with the bat.
Despite this excellent form, Sarfaraz once again remained unsold in the IPL auction. This is the third consecutive IPL auction where no franchise picked him. His last appearance in the IPL came in 2022, when he played for Delhi Capitals. Sarfaraz made his IPL debut with Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2015 at the age of just 17, becoming the youngest player to play in the league.

He later represented Punjab Kings from 2019 to 2021 and then Delhi Capitals in 2022 and 2023. In almost 50 IPL matches, he has scored 585 runs at an average of around 22 and a strike rate of over 130. Now, fans are expressing their disappointment at seeing India’s talent go unsold in the auction despite stellar performances in domestic cricket.

Here in IPL, Shahrukh’s KKR spent more than Rs 25 crore on white Cameron Green.
It’s like he gives a gold betrothal.
But talented players of their country and religion #sarfarazkhan
Could not even pay base price of Rs 75 lakh
