Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have finally opened up on the news of releasing Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi, Sam Curran and Devon Conway ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction.
After the franchise’s player release list went viral on social media on Friday, October 10, the five-time champions – Chennai Super Kings – took to their official X handle to address the matter.
CSK remained at the bottom in IPL 2025
Chennai Super Kings finished their Indian Premier League 2025 campaign at the tenth position in the points table. They won only four and lost 10 matches in the season and had a net run rate of -0.647.
This was the first time that CSK finished at the bottom of the points table in history, and was also the first instance of the franchise missing the playoffs for two consecutive seasons.
Furthermore, CSK lost against Royal Challengers Bangalore at home for the first time in 17 years and against Delhi Capitals after 15 years. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Chennai Super Kings at home for the first time in history
And all these things happen under the watch of the great MS Dhoni. Original captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was only able to participate in five matches, scoring 122 runs at an average of 24.40 and a strike rate of 150.61, before being eliminated from the competition. MS Dhoni took over the leadership midway through the season, but was unable to help his team make a turnaround.
CSK breaks silence on rumors of releasing Sam Curran and others
Recently, Cricbuzz released a report in which they provided some updates on the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction, which is scheduled to take place in December.
In the same report, it was mentioned that CSK is looking to release some big names from the team in order to empty their purse and enter the auction with a big amount of money in the bag.
It was reported that the five-time champions are looking to release Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi, Sam Curran and Devon Conway. Apart from this, Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement added Rs 9.75 crore to their purse.
After the report went viral, CSK took to Twitter to shut down the growing discussion. She shared a post that read, “Don’t worry, we’ve updated the bio,” and her new bio reads, “Nothing’s official until you see it here.”

Harleen said, “It was incredible – especially at a time when things were not going well for me. He gave me a lot of motivation that day and it was really special.”
