In possibly one of the biggest transfers in IPL history, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are reportedly considering signing Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell from Punjab Kings (PBKS). After a forgettable IPL 2025 season, PBKS is set to part ways with Maxwell ahead of the IPL 2026 auction.
Punjab Kings are set to release Maxwell ahead of the upcoming IPL 2026 auction after their nightmare 2025 season, where he scored only 48 runs at a disappointing average of 8.00 with the bat in seven innings and took only four wickets in 13 overs with the ball.
For a player of Maxwell’s calibre, it was one of the toughest seasons of his IPL career, and his price tag of Rs 4.2 crore now looks too steep for PBKS. Now, last season’s runners-up have decided to part ways with the Australian all-rounder, and CSK are ready for a dream deal.
CSK eyeing Glenn Maxwell in historic trade deal
According to a report by RevSportz journalist Rohit Juglan, Punjab Kings have already started exploring trade options for Glenn Maxwell, and Chennai Super Kings have already shown interest. CSK is keen to turn his long-time dream signing into reality soon.

CSK, known for reviving careers and getting the best out of struggling stars, has always admired Maxwell’s explosive ability and all-round value. For years, CSK fans have wanted to see the Australian power hitter don the iconic yellow jersey, and perhaps that will happen this season.
With the Chennai franchise looking to strengthen their middle-order and add another spin-bowling option, Maxwell fits their requirements perfectly. It is being said that CSK has already made an official offer for Maxwell. PBKS, on the other hand, are believed to be ready for the trade but have not yet revealed which player from the Chennai team they are looking to finalize the swap deal for.
Glenn Maxwell’s IPL story
Maxwell’s story in the IPL has been one of extreme highs and disappointing lows. Just two seasons ago, in 2023, he was in great form for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), scoring over 400 runs at a blistering strike rate of 183.48.
But then in the next two seasons he could score only 52 and 48 runs. If the trade goes through, it could be the perfect restart for Maxwell and a smart move for CSK, who are rebuilding their middle-order after a poor 2025 campaign.
Notably, the Australian star has played 141 IPL matches so far and has scored 2819 runs at an average of 23.88 and a strike rate of 155.14.

CSK to release 4 players before IPL 2026 auction
CSK, on the other hand, is set to release Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Devon Conway and Rahul Tripathi ahead of the IPL 2026 auction in mid-December. The five-time IPL champions have always been smart and strategic when it comes to building their team.
With the IPL 2026 auction expected to take place in the UAE, franchises will be keeping a close eye on emerging T20 talent from India and abroad. CSK will be looking for players who can handle subcontinent conditions, perform under pressure and bring new energy to their setup.
