Chennai Super Kings (CSK) recently filed an official complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India regarding inappropriate stadium conduct. The franchise alleged that they felt humiliated after a stadium entertainer played stereotypical music and made comments about their players during a high-profile match.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Chennai Super Kings by 43 runs in the evening match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, April 5. Tim David played a key role with an explosive innings, helping the Bengaluru-based franchise post a mammoth score of 250 against the visiting team.

CSK files complaint over stadium DJ song incident

Chennai Super Kings raised concerns after a stadium DJ played the song “Dosa, Idli, Sambar, Chutney, Chutney” during their recent match, according to a report in The Indian Express.

The track, composed by Gaana Appu, is often used in social media memes associated with South Indian stereotypes. CSK felt that the timing and context of playing the song during the game was inappropriate.

An IPL official confirmed that the Governing Council has received the complaint and is reviewing the matter. The franchise took the issue seriously, saying it crossed acceptable limits in a professional match environment.

This song had earlier gone viral when Jitesh Sharma was seen singing it, after which CSK fans trolled him. At that time, CSK had taken steps to ensure that such comments were not made on opposition players.

Kasi Viswanathan condemned unprofessional conduct

Chennai Super Kings managing director Kasi Viswanathan criticized the unprofessional conduct displayed by the stadium entertainer. Vishwanathan expressed strong disappointment at the nature of the targeted stadium commentary.

He said, “DJs are usually there to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Some comments were made against our players. Keeping this in mind, we have written to the BCCI to look into it.”

He said, “After that incident, there has been no recurrence. DJs should not comment on opposition players. Also, we are fortunate that we have a loving fan base who supports us in large numbers.”
