Cricket officially includes Asian Games 2026, Japan to host 10 men and 8 women’s teams

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) finally called its annual general meeting in Dhaka, Bangladesh today. It was included by representatives of all member nations of the organization. The meeting was officially held by Mohsin Naqvi, head of Pakistan Cricket Board.

He is the new chief, that is, the President of the Asian Cricket Council. The meeting, which was once thrown into doubt about fulfilling their quorum, has now been a success with all the members who attended the meeting with all the member nations, either individual or online.

After the meeting, Chairman Naqvi appreciated the efforts of the organizers, Bangladesh Cricket Board and its interim chief, Mr. Aminul Islam, BCB President.

ACC AGM included cricket in Asian Games 2026

The main agenda of the ACC annual general meeting was to decide the future of the upcoming Asia Cup, its possible hosting rights and more. However, no conclusion can be drawn on the continental championship, except a confirmation that it will be held with the participation of 8 member nations.

However, another meeting is scheduled to decide the fate of the Asia Cup. The ACC took a major decision to announce the inclusion of cricket in the upcoming Asian Games 2026, which should be held in Japan.

The ACC announced that out of ACC member countries, a total of 10 men and 8 women national teams would be part of the Asian Games 2026, and the fingers would be made according to the ranking.

Along with them, the Asian Cricket Council also announced the inclusion of 3 more new member nations, Mongolia, Uzbekistan and the Philippines in the ACC family.

History of cricket in Asian Games

Asian Games are a multi-game phenomenon that involves only athletes participation from different Asian countries. After the 1998 Commonwealth Games, Cricket was no longer part of any multi-game event; However, it was announced that cricket would be included by the Olympic Council of Asia at the 2010 Asian Games.

This suggests that the Asian Games will be the 4th edition of cricket in the 2026 Games. Currently, India as well as women from India stand as defending champions, winning Asian games in 2022.

Before installing for the Asian Games 2026, it should be kept in mind that Pakistan is a two -time female champion, and Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and India have all won the men’s program once.

Cricket is also included in the LA28 Summer Olympics

Cricket has achieved global heights, as the game is now not only being played by a limited number of nations, but various nations known for multi-sport events have shown interest in sports in recent times.

As a result, the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028 will include the game of cricket and mark the return of the game at the Olympics for the first time after a gap of 128 years.

The committee has not yet decided to make the process of selection of teams, but they have confirmed that it will involve 6 teams in the events of both men and women. Now, after verification of the Olympics, Cricket makes its way at another multi-team sporting event, The Asian Games 2026.
