Former Indian national cricket team batsman Sanjay Manjrekar has attacked star batsman Shubman Gill after his exclusion from the Indian T20 team.

Shubman Gill was recently dropped from India’s T20I squad despite being the vice-captain, and Axar Patel was named as Suryakumar Yadav’s deputy for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Gill has been dropped due to his poor performance in T20 cricket since his return to the format. Meanwhile, Sanjay Manjrekar took an indirect dig at Gill while discussing his exclusion in a social media post. He said:

“He has not scored a single 50 in 20 innings. A statistic often cited to indicate a decline in form. T20 is and will always be about strike rate. The last thing you want is for out-of-form batsmen to play cautiously as they approach 50. That will cost you the game.”
