Cheteshwar Pujara was entitled to a farewell match: Shashi Tharoor

Meanwhile, Indian politician Shashi Tharoor paid a rich tribute to Cheteshwar Pujara through an incredible post on his official X handle.

Tharoor said that Pujara was entitled to a proper farewell match due to long -run and his outstanding contribution in the Indian team. He said:

“I cannot help feel a pang of regrets on the retirement of @Cheteshwar 1 even though it was indispensable after his recent string of excluding the Indian team, and even if he had nothing left to prove, he was a little longer in the saddle and worthy of his outstanding testing career for India.

“When he was dropped, with typical gum, he returned to the domestic scene and scored many impressive scores. But the selectors decided to move forward, and no one could blame him for deciding to throw him into the towel.”

Shashi Tharoor further said that he saw greatness in Pujara during his visit to England 20 years ago and wished him for the future. He said:

I was reading “Diary of a cricketer’s wife” and shows how long it takes to achieve what Pujara achieved. He first caught my eyes on a tour of India 20 years ago, when his frequent scoring suggested that he was ready for the next level.

“The selectors agreed, they first started 72 in their second innings, and then, despite one or two failures, India’s Mr. became reliable at number three. He missed out badly on Australia’s final tour. All the best, @Cheteshwar 1 Pujara! And thanks for the service of Indian cricket!”
