In recent times, franchise T20 cricket has grown around the world and has captured the expectations of international cricket. It features matches of privately owned franchise teams, providing a global platform for players to showcase their talent.
The IPL has been one of the most prestigious leagues in the world, and has included many team owners who have considered investing huge amounts of money in other global leagues as well. Similarly (Caribbean Premier League) CPL also includes many teams which have been bought by Indian investors.
Following the entry of new team Jamaica Kingsmen into the CPL, the tournament has announced the schedule for the upcoming 15th edition of the competition. Here is a detailed look at the schedule for the upcoming season.
CPL 2026 schedule announced after the 7th team joins the competition
The Caribbean Premier League, a franchise tournament held in the West Indies, will see several new additions in the 15th edition of the competition and a new franchise has already been announced with the debut of a Jamaica-based franchise.
The CPL returns to Jamaica after a long period of 6 years and will feature a new team, the Jamaica Kingsmen, who will make their debut in this edition of the competition. Notably, this franchise was previously named Jamaica Tallawahs, but that team ceased to exist after the 2023 season.
The CPL will once again feature this new team along with many of the teams that were part of the tournament in the previous edition, where Trinbago Knight Riders finished as the defending champions of the competition. Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots and St. Lucia Kings are the other teams.
Will Indian-owned CPL franchises play against Pakistan-owned franchises?
The Jamaica Kingsmen will be a new franchise in the CPL which has been purchased by Canada-based Pakistani businessman Fawad Sarwar, who also owns the Hyderabad Kingsmen in the Pakistan Super League and the Chicago Kingsmen in Minor League Cricket.
Now, being a Pakistani owner, he has to let his team play in a tournament that features several teams owned by Indian owners. CPL teams like Barbados Royals, St. Lucia Kings and Trinbago Knight Riders are all owned by IPL owners.
The team will use Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica as its home ground and matches are also scheduled there. Hopefully the tension between India and Pakistan will not be a matter of concern in CPL 2026.
