Australian youngster Cooper Connolly has replaced Mitchell Marsh after the Australian T20I captain suffered a serious injury during the IPL 2026 campaign for LSG.
With Lucknow Super Giants not qualifying for the IPL playoffs, Mitchell Marsh was likely to be available for the Pakistan vs Australia ODI series soon. Despite LSG’s batting struggles, Marsh scored 550+ runs in the season, along with one brilliant century in the season.
Marsh was likely to step in as stand-in captain against his regular captain Pat Cummins. Cummins will not be available for Australia in the upcoming white-ball series against Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Travis Head is also not a part of the Australian team against Pakistan and hence the biggest focus will be on Cooper Connolly’s role in the team. Cameron Green, Matt Short and Marnus Labuschagne have added To the squad.

Mitchell Marsh’s availability for the Bangladesh series also remains uncertain
Australian seamer Nathan Ellis has returned to the team after being ruled out of the IPL 2026 season due to injury. He was one of the key absent players in the Chennai Super Kings team.
Mitchell Marsh, who is unavailable in this series against Pakistan, is currently injured and nothing has been told about his return date. Marsh’s availability for the season also remains uncertain.
Australia will take part in another ODI tour starting against Bangladesh from June 9, and in the absence of Pat Cummins, the return of Mitchell Marsh will be useful for the Australian team.
Josh Inglis ready to step in as Australia captain against Pakistan
Josh Inglis has stepped down as captain of the Australian men’s national cricket team. In the absence of senior players like Mitchell Marsh, Pat Cummins and Travis Head, the Australian team had to reshuffle its captaincy options.
Had Head been available for this series, he would likely have stepped into the captaincy role. Inglis is unlikely to continue in the same role if Travis Head makes himself available for the next ODI tour of Bangladesh.
However, due to the busy Test schedule for the Australian team starting this year, players like captain Pat Cummins and Travis Head may be kept away from limited overs cricket for some time.
