The wait is finally over as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad for the upcoming T20 series to tour the United Kingdom, where Team India will face Ireland and England in two separate T20 series and then the Asian Games 2026.
The curiosity of the fans was at its peak before the team selection, the main reason for which was the role of captaincy. As per previous claims and multiple reports, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee had made up its mind to sack 2026 ICC T20I World Cup captain Suryakumar Yadav and appoint Shreyas Iyer as the new leader of the team. There were many other names in speculation like Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson.
Team India will enter the Asian Games this year as the defending champion. Ahead of the event, the BCCI named an extended list of 30 players from which they have chosen the main squad, which will fly to Aichi Prefecture and its capital Nagoya in Japan.
Ahead of the announcement, the board shared a picture from the meeting room, which was attended by top officials like BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia and chief selector Ajit Agarkar.
The caption of the post read, “The Men’s Selection Committee meeting is underway at the BCCI Headquarters in Mumbai to announce #TeamIndia’s T20I squad for the tour of Ireland and England and the Asian Games in Japan as well as India A’s tour of Sri Lanka (Multi-Day Games).”

The men’s cricket tournament will begin with the preliminary qualifiers on September 24 and continue till October 3.
- 24-26 September: preliminary qualifier
- September 28-29: quarter finals
- 1 October: semi final
- 3 October: Bronze Medal Match and Gold Medal Match
The men’s matches will be played in two daily slots at 5:30 am IST and 10:30 am IST.
