Royal Challengers Bangalore’s past performance and IPL titles
The defending champions, Royal Challengers Bangalore, have been a part of the IPL since the very first season of the league and have produced some remarkable performances during this period, with the most recent performance ending their trophy drought.
2008-2013
RCB is the team that made its IPL debut when it faced KKR in the very first match in the history of the league and faced a batsman named Brendon McCullum, who scored the then highest individual score of 158 runs in the IPL.
Having said that, Royal Challengers Bangalore came back strong in the next season held in South Africa and made it to the final of the tournament, but lost against the eventual champions Deccan Chargers while chasing a small score.
The runners-up of the previous edition managed to maintain their good performance in the third season too by finishing in the top four and reaching the knockout stage of the tournament.
In 2011, RCB, led by former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori, made the final for the second time in four seasons, but failed to cross the line once again against Chennai Super Kings.
The next few years were not good for the then Virat Kohli-led team as it failed to qualify for the playoffs and finished fifth in two consecutive editions.
2014-2019
The story kept repeating itself by 2014, and it took a special effort from the captain himself to help the team make the playoffs the next year, courtesy of a mind-blowing moment from David Warner in a short match against SRH.
As far as the 2016 season of IPL is concerned, it was largely a one man show for Royal Challengers Bangalore as Virat Kohli, who was on another level as a player, scored over 900 runs, 973 to be exact, and took his team to the final.
Although RCB fell short of their maiden IPL title, Kohli made that special season his own with his batting which is still talked about.
Having said that, the next three seasons were forgettable for Royal Challengers as their performances were quite inconsistent.
2020-2025
The scenario is quite different since 2020, as RCB have become quite consistent in their performances, which is evident from the fact that the team has qualified for the playoffs in five of the last six IPL editions.
Rajat Patidar will enter the upcoming season as the defending champions, having won their first title last year by defeating Punjab Kings in the final.
Players retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore
Royal Challengers Bangalore have retained a total of 17 players for IPL 2026, which includes former captain Virat Kohli, veteran fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar and title-winning captain Rajat Patidar.
