Rajasthan Royals’ past performance and IPL titles

Rajasthan Royals is one of those teams that looks strong on paper every year but fails to perform well consistently, a prime example of which was seen during the last season when the team lost many matches from winning positions.

2008-2013

RR had surprised everyone by winning the trophy in the first season of the league under the leadership of Shane Warne with many inexperienced players.

It was a complete team effort led by experienced players like Mohammad Kaif and captain Shane Warne as well as lesser-known players like Ravindra Jadeja and Swapnil Asnodkar.

The bowling department of the team was handled by Sohail Tanvir, who eventually emerged as the highest wicket-taker for the champions.

However, the team was not able to maintain consistency in its performances and failed to make the knockouts in 2009 and 2010, finishing sixth and seventh respectively.

The same story continued till 2012 and Rajasthan Royals had to wait till 2013 to qualify for the playoffs.

2014-2019

In 2014, RR finished behind Mumbai Indians in terms of net run rate even though both the teams had equal points to make the top four, thanks to Aditya Tare’s six on the last ball that changed the equation.

Rajasthan Royals have resources that can work for the team, but they have failed to perform well as a unit on many occasions.

Having said that, 2015 was the year RR gave their best performance and qualified for the top four after falling well short of a spot in the playoffs in 2014.

After not being a part of the league in the last few years, the team made a strong comeback in 2018 and once again made it to the playoffs with 14 points.

2020-2025

Despite a good performance in the 2018 edition, RR had to wait until 2022 for their next playoff appearance and this time the team did well by making it to the final against Gujarat Titans.

As has been the case with RR, the team was not able to carry forward the good performances it delivered in 2022 and made several changes to a settled team, resulting in weak performances in the last three editions.

Rajasthan Royals need to find a captain for the upcoming season, they have traded former captain Sanju Samson. The team is expected to rely on a young player in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel or Riyan Parag to lead the team.
