The Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 final match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium just ended as RCB won their second trophy and became the third team after CSK and MI to defend the IPL trophy as they won by 5 wickets.
RCB won the toss and elected to field first, making no changes from their win over Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1. GT made one change, bringing in Arshad Khan for R Sai Kishore. The atmosphere of the stadium had become exciting due to the arrival of a large number of fans in the world’s largest stadium.

Virat Kohli and run-chase are a match made in heaven
Asked to bat first, the Titans got off to a good start as Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan returned to the pavilion in the next overs with scores of 10 and 12 runs respectively. RCB’s bowling unit was in top form, especially Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood and Jacob Duffy. Even Jos Buttler had to struggle as he was out for 19 runs.
Washington Sundar, who was controversially spared, played a brilliant innings for his franchise on the night. He scored a half-century in 37 balls and scored 155/8 in his 20 overs, with Sundar remaining unbeaten till the end on a wicket that was very slow and the ball was stopping in the first innings.
Venkatesh Iyer and Virat Kohli gave a great start while chasing the target. The southpaw scored 32 runs off 16 balls as Mohammed Siraj took the wicket and Devdutt Padikkal walked back one run. Patidar also could not last more than 15 runs and Krunal Pandya also came in the same over of Rashid Khan.

Kohli completed his half-century in 25 balls and kept RCB in the run chase as it was his fastest half-century. Tim David was out after scoring 24 runs in 17 balls, but Kohli remained unbeaten on 75 and finished the game brilliantly with a six.
Vaibhav Suryanshi won most IPL awards
As for the awards for the IPL 2026 season, Vaibhav Suryavanshi won the Orange Cap by scoring the most runs with 776 runs at an average of 48.50. The southpaw also won several awards for his stellar season, as he also won the Angel One Super Sixer of the Season and Sierra Super Striker of the Season with 72 sixes in the season.
Kagiso Rabada finished the campaign with the Purple Cap as he took 29 wickets for the season, and took only one wicket on the night, which was costly, and not the best of the night.
