Team India’s star batsman Virat Kohli was out on a low score in the second ODI of the three-match series against New Zealand. The 37-year-old’s dismissal brought back memories of the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia in Ahmedabad, as Kohli was out in exactly the same fashion.
Michael Bracewell won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Niranjan Shah Stadium on Wednesday, 14 January. India made one change to their playing eleven, bringing in Nitish Kumar Reddy in place of the injured Washington Sundar. Virat and Shreyas Iyer helped India win the first ODI.
Christian Clarke clean bowled Virat Kohli in Rajkot ODI
The time of dismissal was 23.3 overs, when Christian Clarke bowled a ball into the channel that fell just short. Virat Kohli tried to guide the ball for a single, but the line was too close to his body.
The right-handed batsman got an inside edge and the ball rolled back onto the stumps. When Kohli returned after scoring 23 runs in 29 balls with the help of two fours, the crowd became silent.
This was the first time in six ODI innings that Kohli was out for less than 50 runs. Clarke took his third wicket, and India slipped from 99/1 to 118/4, giving New Zealand strong momentum in the match.
