Veteran Team India cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara announced his retirement from all formats of Indian cricket on Sunday, August 24, 24 August. The right -handed batsman took his social media account X (formerly known as Twitter) to share the news with fans.

Cheteshwar Pujara was the backbone of India’s Test batting. He last played for India in the 2023 World Test Championship final. Pujara scored 7,195 runs in 176 innings at an average of 43.60, including 19 centuries and 35 half -centuries. The experienced cricketer played only five ODIs throughout his career.

Cheteshwar Pujara said that he gave his best on the ground while playing for India. He thanked the fans for his unwavering support and said that the time had come to bring his career into a close.

Pujara wrote, “Wearing Indian jersey, singing anthem, and every time I stepped on the field, it is impossible to make my best – it is impossible to keep in words what it really means,” Pujara wrote.

“But as they say, all good things should be finished, and with immense gratitude I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket. Thanks to all love and support!”, He said.

Pujara thanked the BCCI and Saurashtra Cricket Association for supporting their journey in the game. He further said that he is indebted to guide the bosses, coaches and his spiritual guru.

Pujara said, “I want to thank BCCI, and Saurashtra Cricket Association for opportunities and support through my cricket career. I am equally grateful to all teams, franchises and counties.

“I would not have made it without the invaluable guidance of my masters, coaches and spiritual gurus – I will always be indebted to him.”
