Former England national cricket team captain Nasir Hussain has highly praised Cheteshwar Pujara, the batsman of India’s former national cricket team, who recently announced his retirement.
Nasir Hussain said that Cheteshwar Pujara was a proper old school number 3 batsman, who over the years did a great job for the India National cricket team and protected the middle-order batsmen like Virat Kohli.
Cheteshwar Pujara completed his Test career with 7,195 runs
On Sunday, August 24, India Test Batting Great Cheteshwar Pujara declared his retirement in all forms of cricket, and after that, he revealed that he thought of playing the upcoming Ranji Trophy season, but felt that it was the right time to make way for young players in the Saurashtra team.

Pujara made his Test debut for the India National Cricket Team at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on October 9, 2010 against the Australia National Cricket Team.
Of that, he played a total of 103 Test matches for the country and scored 7195 runs in his mythological career at an average of 43.60 with 19 centuries and 35 fifties.
The Last of the Test Purists, Pujara played most of his most matches – 94 – number 3 spots and emerged as the ideal successor of mythological Rahul Dravid.
His last presence for Team India came in the ICC World Test Championship 2023 finals, and after that, he did not give up and went to a piece, scored continuously for Saurashtra and Sussex, but he was not missed.
Shubman Gill does not want to do this for India – Nasar Hussain
Speaking on the Sky Sports YouTube channel, Nasar Hussain praised Cheteshwar Pujara for a hard work for India and said how the new-age Shubman Gill and Joe are reluctant to bat at number 3 in route tests. He said:
“A real old-school number 3. And he had to handle one of the all-time Great No 3S in Rahul Dravid.
“In our era, your number 3 was your best player, be it Viv Richards, Ricky Ponting or Rahul Dravid. There is not an easy situation to do so, but Pujara did it with anyone.”
He protected the middle order, there with Kohli’s choice – Nasir Hussain
In his tribute post for Cheteshwar Pujara, the legendary Virat Kohli mentioned that he had made his work easy at number 4. Giving a statement with similar lines, Nasar Hussain said that Cheteshwar Pujara protected Kohli’s choice against the new ball. He said:
“One of the old school batsmen has gone and one more. A bat for your life and my dead body batsman who played the ball late and produced some great innings in Australia. He was loved by Indian fans to play this way. And he protected the middle order, with Kohli’s choice, working with a new ball.
