The World Club Championship, a large, boulder and truly a global version of the Long-Foregoten Champions League T20 (CLT20), is set to return to 2026. According to the cricketer, the launch of the new World Cup Championship has been set in 2026 next year.
The reboot tournament will bring the champion teams together from the major T20 league worldwide. The Indian Premier League (IPL), Big Bash League (BBL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), SA20, and even hundreds of battles, the winning teams exclude it to participate in the battle of the final supremely-world club championships.
Champions League T20 set to return with a global turn in 2026
The idea has gained strong support from the Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI), England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and even on the ICC Chairman J Shah Shah Board. Interestingly, the ECB wants a hundred winning team to participate in the latest version of the Champions League T20 rather than the general vitality blast winner.

ECB CEO Richard Gold has indicated that the inauguration of the World Club Championship has all been confirmed. Gold also suggested that there could be a female version of this tournament. He said, “This is on the card. Without a doubt, at some point, there will be a World Club Championship for both men and women. This is the next logical move.”
However, the new tournament will follow the same format as the Old Champions League T20, but with greater enthusiasm, large access and top teams around the world.
Why the Champions League T20 failed?
Meanwhile, the Champions League T20 was launched in 2009 with high expectations. It brought the top T20 teams around the world together. But by 2015, the tournament was closed due to low TV audience number, weak sponsorship and lack of global balance.
The tournament dominated the IPL, which had three teams game each year, while other league teams had limited opportunities. Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians were the most successful teams in CLT20, each won two titles.

But since then the cricket world has changed a lot. Now, almost every major cricket country has its own franchise league, and fans are more than ever. In particular, India, Australia, Pakistan, South Africa, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, UAE and England all have their domestic franchise leagues.
Additionally, there is also a Major Cricket League (MLC) in the US. Last year, Guyana started a new tournament called Global Super League, bringing teams of various T20 competitions around the world together.
The purpose of the World Club Championship is to unite global T20 giants
The event featured five franchise teams: Guyana Amazon Warriors from CPL, BPL to Rangpur Riders, PSL to Lahore Kalandars, England’s vitality Blast to Hampshire, and Australia’s Sheffield Shield to Victoria.
This is why the idea of a World Club Championship emerged. With a strong league, a comprehensive global fan base, and better commercial support, it can be like the UEFA Champions League of the new tournament football.
