Thrilling contest between Delhi and Rajasthan
After losing the toss and batting first, Rajasthan Royals scored a competitive score of 193 runs in 20 overs. Dhruv Jurel’s 53 off 40, captain Riyan Parag’s aggressive 51 off 26 and Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s explosive 46 off 21 helped Royals achieve the total.
DC made a comeback in the middle stage of the first innings. With the ball, Delhi Capitals’ star bowler, Mitchell Strack took 4 wickets from his spell, while Lungi Ngidi and Madhav Tiwary took one wicket each.
In the first over of the second innings, Rajasthan Royals gave up an easy opportunity to dismiss KL Rahul for zero. Yash Punja dropped a sitter during Jofra Archer’s over. With extra lives, DC scored 56 off 42. His opening partner, Abhishek Porel also scored a half-century – 51 off 31.
Finally Ashutosh Sharma became aggressive
The excitement in Delhi went till the last over to separate these two teams. Similar to DC, RR pulled themselves back into the contest through their bowlers in the middle stage of the second innings after the dismissals of Rahul and Porel.
Ashutosh Sharma’s late cameo sealed the match for Delhi Capitals by scoring 18 not out off 5 balls with a strike rate of 360.00. DC won the match by 5 wickets and 4 balls remaining. That drop catch early in the innings proved costly for Rajasthan Royals
Can DC make it to the IPL 2026 playoffs?
Despite the win, Delhi’s chances for the play-offs do not look very good. They are sitting on 12 points from 13 games and can reach a maximum of 14 points. Even winning by a big margin may not be enough. Due to less quantity of marks it is not in their own hands. The remaining group stage will take place on May 24 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
However, as per all the shuffles and combinations, the Axar Patel-led team is still in the race for the playoffs, and they will have to win against Kolkata Knight Riders to keep the hopes alive.
