New Zealand has suffered a major setback in Jari 3.third Test match against England at Trent Bridge. Fast bowler Blair Tickner has been ruled out of the rest of the season due to injury. The team has named Jack Foulkes as a concussion substitute in place of Tickner.
On the second day of the first innings, while batting for New Zealand, a bouncer from England fast bowler Joffra hit Blair Tickner on the helmet. He remained unbeaten on 4 runs and also took the field at the end of the day and bowled three overs before being ruled out of the match.
Jack Faulks in, Blair Tickner out
Jack Foulkes, another fast bowler, has joined the line-up in place of Tickner. As per MCC rules, teams are allowed to name like replacements for an injured player. So Foulkes, who is also a fast bowler, fits under the rule. The rules allow a substitute player, who joins the team as a concussion replacement, to use both bat and ball.
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has released an official statement regarding the change in its playing combination.
“Blair Tickner has been ruled out of the remainder of the third Test against England at Trent Bridge after suffering a blow to the helmet while batting in the first innings. Jack Foulkes has been named as Tickner’s replacement,” the governing body informed via an official statement.
New Zealand and England are pushing to capture both the match and the series
At present, the important match to be held at Trent Bridge is hanging in the balance as England’s batsmen are also performing well in their first innings. In the first innings, New Zealand scored 438 runs for 10 wickets. He claimed that most of the runs were for his opening wicket.
Team captain and opener Tom Latham scored 151 runs and Devon Conway, the other part of the opening pair, scored 157 runs. With more than two hundred and fifty runs, the visiting team achieved a partnership of 317 runs for the first wicket.
Later, after both the batsmen were out, England’s bowling unit made a brilliant comeback and restricted the opposition team to 438 runs. As the openers set the tone early in the innings, the Kiwis had a golden opportunity to score more runs to put more pressure on the England cricket team.
England trail by just 215 runs after the second day
The first innings of the match shows that the track has a lot to offer for the batsmen. The hosts also know this very well. At stumps on the second day, in reply to New Zealand’s 438, the Three Lions already had 223 runs with 8 wickets remaining.
England’s opening batsman Ben Duckett gave a solid start to his team by scoring a century. Duckett scored 113 off 99 before being taken off guard. Jacob Bethel and experienced batsman Joe Root will start the third day for the team. Bethel remained unbeaten on 74 runs and Root remained unbeaten on 21 runs.
