Big sign for Shreyas Iyer! T20 World Cup 2026 gets a boost

Although Tilak Verma is pain-free and making amazing progress, the COE clearly does not want to risk him suffering another injury ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup. Hence Shreyas Iyer will remain with the Indian team for the remaining New Zealand series.

India have been struggling with some injuries recently. Tilak Verma was the eldest among them. Tilak, who captained Hyderabad in the Vijay Hazare Trophy after a successful series in South Africa, suffered an injury during his second match. He underwent surgery after his injury.

After completing his rehabilitation, Tilak was deemed available for India for the fourth and fifth games of the home series against New Zealand. However, as per the latest reports, the player will not be available for the series.

Shreyas Iyer’s stay in Team India’s T20 team has become longer.

Shreyas Iyer was finally allowed to join the T20I squad as a replacement for the injured Tilak Verma. Shreyas Iyer, who was supposed to play for India in the first three matches, has not got a game so far.

However, in recent developments, where Tilak Verma’s return has been delayed until the World Cup, Shreyas Iyer will remain with the Indian team for the next two matches of the series. He will now remain with the team.

With Shreyas Iyer’s extended stay, it remains to be seen whether the right-handed batsman will be tried in the remaining two matches. Ishan Kishan was selected at number above Iyer. 3 And he completed the arrangement of trusting in him.

BCCI official reveals the real reason behind Tilak Verma’s late return

Times of India has revealed that Tilak is now pain-free and will need the necessary clearance from the BCCI’s Center of Excellence, as they do not want to take risks with the youngster.

“At the moment he is pain-free and making very good progress, but the CoE wants him to be fully ready before giving the green signal for the World Cup. The initial plan was to keep him on the park for the fourth T20I. He may still be available for the final game, but may also play in the preparation game in Mumbai,” a BCCI official told TimesofIndia.com.

“Tilak was playing competitive cricket before his injury, so there is no problem there. The selectors will move forward only after they get the RTP from the CoE. No chances will be taken for any player and that is why there has been some delay in the starting deadline,” the official said.

Riyan Parag cited as backup by BCCI selectors

The team management is worried about Washington Sundar’s availability for the upcoming World Cup, as the all-rounder’s injury is so serious that he is unlikely to recover quickly.

If Sundar is unavailable, the Indian selectors are hoping for a similar replacement for the all-rounder. They have found a player in Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Riyan Parag.

However, Parag is currently in COE and is recovering from a shoulder injury. His recovery is progressing rapidly as per BCCI instructions, as he has been asked to be available for practice matches ahead of the World Cup.
