Amid the ongoing series against the Australian team, which marks the preparation phase for the high-stakes ICC Women’s T20 World Cup tournament to be held in England in 2026, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur has suffered a major injury, which may also impact her chances for the World Cup.
Indian women are currently on tour in Australia and are playing a three-match white-ball series against the most successful team in the history of the Women’s World Cup. After a successful T20I leg of the series, where India secured a 2-1 win over the giants of the game, they are now into the ODIs.
Harmanpreet Kaur likely to suffer serious injury during India vs Australia match
India chose to bat first after Harmanpreet won the toss against Australia. This is the final series for Australia captain Alyssa Healy before she calls time on her international career. Also, this is the first time India is playing against Australia after winning the World Cup in 2025.
When Harmanpreet Kaur was batting during the first innings, she suffered a severe injury to her left knee. She did not take the field during the second innings and is currently being monitored by the BCCI medical team, as per an update on the BCCI Women’s official X page.
BCCI said, “Captain Harmanpreet Kaur did not take the field in the second innings after injuring her left knee while batting. The BCCI medical team is monitoring her progress. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana is leading the team in her absence.”
