Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have suffered a major blow as South Africa national cricket team’s express fast bowler Anrich Nortje has left the camp midway through the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bowling coach Bharat Arun has revealed that Proteas fast bowler Anrich Nortje has suffered an injury and has left the team.
Lucknow Super Giants have won two of their matches and four have ended in defeat. They are currently ranked 9th in the IPL 2026 points table due to their poor run-rate. Supergiants would like to make a comeback under the leadership of Rishabh Pant.
‘Anrich Nortje was injured and has withdrawn’ – Bharat Arun
Speaking to TOI, Bharat Arun was asked how he is managing the balance of overseas vs Indian bowlers. Responding to this, Arun said that the LSG bowling unit consists mostly of local Indian players and their only overseas star Anrich Nortje is injured.
“Our bowling attack is predominantly Indian. In fact, apart from Anrich Nortje, who was injured and has withdrawn, we don’t really have a foreign presence in the bowling group. But it is a very exciting Indian bowling unit, and we have a lot of confidence in them,” Arun told TOI.
Anrich Nortje is the second foreign player to be dropped from LSG
After Wanindu Hasaranga, the Sri Lankan leg spinner was also out due to injury, there was no spinner in the LSG camp and they had to make do with Digwesh Rathi and M Siddhartha in their camp.
After Hasaranga’s exit, Anrich Nortje is now the second foreign player to be dropped from the LSG camp. Anrich Nortje has played just one game this season and has not been able to take a single wicket after scoring 39 runs.
The South African returned for his national team and then returned to the IPL after being bought for a price of Rs 2 crore.
The fast bowlers of Lucknow Super Giants have been dominating in this IPL 2026.
Lucknow Super Giants started their season with two losses, but the pacers had a great deck as Mohammed Shami picked up wickets and was very economical.
