The recently published documentary series ‘Corruption, Crime and Cricket’ has taken the cricket fraternity by surprise as it has several shocking claims related to the T20 World Cup 2026 and the Canadian cricket team. It is alleged that a group match of the tournament between the New Zealand cricket team and Canada was fixed.
The documentary, broadcast by The Fifth Estate on CBC, also claimed that the Bishnoi gang had influenced the match-fixing incident as well as the team selection process ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026.
Canada has identified Bishnoi gang as a terrorist group.
According to investigative reports and whistleblower testimony, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang allegedly exerted external pressure on the Canadian cricket governing body. Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that the Canadian government has declared Lawrence Bishnoi Gang as a terrorist entity.
According to a new release published on canada.ca, “There is no place in Canada for acts of violence and terror, especially those that target specific communities to create an environment of fear and intimidation. That’s why the Honorable Gary Anandasangare, Minister of Public Safety, announced today that the Government of Canada has listed the Bishnoi Gang as a terrorist entity under the Criminal Code.”
The captain of the Canadian cricket team has been accused of spot fixing in the T20 World Cup 2026.
In a surprise move, Cricket Canada has named Dilpreet Bajwa as its captain, replacing Nicholas Kirton ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup. This step was taken just a few weeks before the opening day of the tournament. It is surprising why the cricket governing body chose Bajwa as its captain for the tournament.
In the documentary, Bajwa was accused of a spot-fixing incident, which was conducted during the T20 World Cup 2026 match against New Zealand in Chennai. Bajwa went to bowl the fifth over of the innings and started the spell with a no-ball. He gave away a total of 15 runs in that over, which also included two wide balls on leg stump.
According to claims, Bishnoi gang had threatened the Cricket Governing Board to give priority to some players. Due to the threat to his life, the board officials would have taken action as per the demands.
CBC quoted a Cricket Canada insider as saying, “I think people in the cricket world are no different from the general public and when fear comes up … they are very frustrated and scared, so they don’t want to talk about it.”
Bishnoi gang influenced the team selection process before T20 World Cup 2026
A member of Cricket Canada told The Fifth Estate, “To be honest, it’s a sad thing, but again it’s within the ICC’s jurisdiction. If they investigate it, whatever they recommend, we will do that.”
According to sources, they claimed to represent the Bishnoi gang – a violent criminal group that has been designated a terrorist entity in Canada. He told Starr that if he did not support the rise of a young player named Dilpreet Bajwa and another player to the men’s provincial team and national team, he and his family would face consequences, CBC reported.
