Bhuvneshwar Kumar reveals Virat Kohli’s role in his dominance in IPL 2026

While the entire cricket world is praising Bhuvneshwar Kumar for his brilliant bowling against Delhi Capitals (DC vs RCB), Kumar himself gives the credit for this success to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) legend Virat Kohli.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who earned the nickname ‘Swing King’ from Indian cricket fans, currently leads the list of highest wicket-takers in IPL 2026 with 14 wickets in 8 matches with an economy rate of 7.61. Of those 14 wickets, he added 3 in the Delhi Capitals match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar told how Virat Kohli is guiding the team from behind

Virat Kohli is mostly known for his batting and has led RCB and Team India in chasing tough targets on many occasions. There have been endless discussions about RCB and former India captain Kohli’s batting, but very few people know about his influence inside the dressing room.

After the DC vs RCB match in Delhi, Kumar hinted at Virat Kohli’s influence on the team. Kumar, who is an excellent and experienced bowler, also learns and takes inspiration from the batting legend. The seamer pointed out Virat’s excellent communication skills, which not only helps the batsmen but also excites the bowlers. With his experience with batting and matches, the Delhi-born player has become a source of inspiration for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) players.

It is very important how he communicates: Bhuvneshwar Kumar

“I think, no matter what he has achieved, it is very important how he communicates, how he talks. I think his experience with batting, if he says something, it helps a lot,” Bhuvneshwar said in a video released by the IPL on X.

“If you have someone who has that much experience, it helps the team’s contribution,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kohli has completed 9,000 runs in the mega tournament, achieving a significant feat in his IPL career. Kohli needed 11 runs to reach this mark and he achieved it easily against Delhi Capitals last night. On the last ball of the power play, Kohli made the record in his name by taking a single off the ball of DC captain and spinner Akshar Patel. He remained unbeaten on 23 off 15 and RCB easily chased down the modest target of 76 runs and won the match.

The fast bowler emphasizes team play

Kumar acknowledged that cricket is about performing as a unit, a team game. The result of the match is important for him. If he performs well individually, but the team somehow loses the match, it will not be a happy moment for Kumar.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar said, “We usually look at the performance by the result, but I don’t look at it that way because it is a team game.”

“Sometimes if you are performing well, no matter the result or the wicket… it is very important to complement each other. If you are bowling well and someone is taking wickets at the other end, that is what matters,” he said.
