Mo Bobat, director of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), disclosed the team’s strategy for Mohammad Sirj during the IPL 2025 mega auction. The director also said that the RCB plans to sign Bhuvneshwar Kumar would be complicated by maintaining Siraj, and the decision was taken after careful consideration.

Royal Challengers Bangalore made a bold call ahead of IPL 2025, leaving several senior names. He had three rights to the match card, but used only one. The team brought back Swapnil Singh, but decided not to re -sign experienced stars like Mohammad Sirj, FAF Do Placeis and Glenn Maxwell.

Siraj played for the franchise for seven sessions. He is going to take his third biggest wicket with 83 scale in 87 matches. RCB did not make a single bid for him during the mega auction, nor did he use the RTM option. Titans of Gujarat secured Siraj for an ₹ 12.50 crore.

We were keen to sign Bhuvneshwar Kumar – Mo Bobat

Talking to Cricbuzz, Mo Bobat said that the release of Mohammad Siraj was a strategic move to sign Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He said that maintaining Siraj can be interrupted by the team’s plan to bring it to Bhuvi.

“We were eager to try and get Bhuvi and we felt that it would make it difficult to get Bhuvi by hanging Siraj,” Mo Bobat told Cricbuzz,

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is India’s fourth biggest wicket at T20I. He took an average of 90 wickets of 23.10 and a strike rate of 6.96 in 87 matches, including two five-wicket halls and three four-wicket houles. However, he has not represented India in T20Is since November 2022.

Sirj last played a T20I match for India during a 2–0 series win in Sri Lanka in July 2024, where he bowled nine overs in three matches, but claimed only one wicket.

Hyderabad -born cricketers were part of India’s winning 2024 T20 World Cup campaign in West Indies and USA. Sirj took just one wicket in three matches in the first part of the tournament. In particular, they were not included in the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.
