The Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) will unveil India’s squad for the upcoming two-match test series against the West Indies on 23 September or 24. The selection committee led by Ajit Agkar, despite a spin-dominant lineup, is unlikely to rest the pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah.
India, led by Shubman Gill, is set to take Roston Chase’s West Indies in a two -match Test series at home. This series is part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, and points are important for both teams. The first Test will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad before going to Delhi.
India aims to score WTC points in the first home series
India attracted their recent Test series 2–2 in England and now got an opportunity to strengthen its World Test Championship (WTC) points Tally during the upcoming home series against the West Indies.
The team led by Shubman Gill may promote the possibility of reaching the WTC final. India will conduct only two distance tests in army countries against New Zealand. In particular, this will be the first domestic series for India after the retirement of Ravichandran Ashwin, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
With the expectation of spin-friendly pitches, India is likely to adopt a spin-rich strategy, balanced the side with all-rounders and a reliable top order to maximize the possibility of victory. The team will bounce back after losing their final home chain for New Zealand.
Jaspreet Bumrah is unlikely to rest for the West Indies series
According to a report by Cricbuzz, India is likely to take Jaspreet Bumrah, Mohammad Sirj and Prasad Krishna as its speed trio for the series. Bumrah’s availability will depend on his Asia Cup workload, but currently he is expected to feature both matches.
The report said, “The three pacers will be Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Sirraj and Prasad Krishna. Bumrah’s participation will depend on how the Asia Cup comes out, but at this stage, they expect both tests against the West Indies.”
Jasprit Bumrah played three out of three Tests in his England series. After the West Indies Test, India is set to visit Australia for a white ball chain in October-November. He will play an all-format home series against South Africa next time. The team has a busy program before the T20 World Cup.
Rishabh Pant dropped from the tests of West Indies vs. house
Shubman Gill will captain India for the home series, which will include KL Rahul, Yashsvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Ishvaran, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav with prominent players. Rishabh Pant is suspected due to a toe injury in England, and Dhruv Jurlel is likely to have stumps.
Karun Nair, who struggled to create an impact in England, can be abandoned. N Jagdisin, who was called for the fifth test against England, is expected to retain his place. The sky deep is not completely cured, and Nitish Reddy can be considered as the 15th member.
