Apart from Ben Stokes, fast bowler Gus Atkinson, who was dropped due to controversy, has also been brought back into the team. Wicketkeeper Jamie Smith has returned from his paternity leave as England made four changes to their eleven for the third Test against New Zealand in Nottingham. Shoaib Bashir has also come into the team.

In the absence of Ben Stokes, Joe Root was given the captaincy in the second test match. However, Stokes’ return to the team is a big boost for the England national cricket team. The former has shown excellent form for Durham, scoring 95 in a recent County Championship game.
