Rohit Sharma has reached a big milestone by completing 15 years with Mumbai Indians (MI). The experienced opening batsman joined the franchise 15 years ago and has evolved from a young talent to a senior leader, and has guided the team through many of the most successful seasons in the history of the Indian Premier League (MI).
The former captain remains a key figure for Mumbai Indians even after stepping down from the post. His experience brings stability and confidence, while fans continue to celebrate his journey and impact on the franchise over the years. The batsman is currently playing for the Mumbai-based franchise in IPL 2026.
Rohit Sharma completes 15 years with Mumbai Indians
Rohit Sharma made an excellent record with Mumbai Indians In the last few years. Sharma is the only player to play more than 15 seasons for Mumbai. He has scored 5,994 runs in 230 matches, which includes two centuries. The opening batsman also became the first captain to win five IPL titles.
The right-handed batsman started his IPL 2026 campaign with 78 runs from 38 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He made an opening partnership of 148 runs with Ryan Rickelton, which helped Mumbai Indians achieve a big win and end their 13-year losing streak of opening matches.
However, his form has declined slightly. He scored 35 off 26 balls against Delhi Capitals (DC) and scored just 5 runs off 6 balls while chasing 151 in 11 overs against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in a rain-affected game. He has 118 runs in three matches at an average of 39.33 and strike rate of 168.57.
Mumbai Indians struggling in early IPL 2026, set to take on in-form RCB at Wankhede
Mumbai Indians have had a mixed start in IPL 2026 and are currently placed eighth on the points table with two points from three matches. They started their campaign with a six-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders, but then suffered consecutive defeats against Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals.
The team famous for its comeback will largely depend on Rohit Sharma who will maintain consistency with the bat. Mumbai Indians will next face defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Bengaluru-based franchise has won its first two matches and is placed third on the points table.
Before joining Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma played for Deccan Chargers. In the inaugural season, he scored 404 runs while batting in the middle order. Rohit started his IPL career with a duck against Kolkata Knight Riders, but bounced back with 66 off 36 in the next match.
Later, Deccan Chargers promoted Rohit to number three for the final matches. The team finished last in 2008 with only two wins, but Rohit was a key performer, contributing almost a fifth of the team’s total runs that season.
The part-time off-spinner also took a hat-trick against Mumbai Indians at Centurion during the 2009 season. Deccan Chargers reached the semi-finals in 2010 before losing to Chennai Super Kings. Overall, he scored 1,170 runs in 44 innings for Deccan Chargers before moving to Mumbai Indians.
