BCCI Eyes ODI World Cup fresh leadership for 2027
According to a Dainik Jagran report recently, BCCI is considering Shreyas Iyer For the position of India’s ODI captain, indication of a new era for the team. The current captain, Rohit is already 38 and is unlikely to be a part of the setup for the World Cup 2027. During the Champions Trophy, Rohit was the ODI captain and Shubman Gill Was vice-captains. A BCCI source said that with the current charge, no player can captain the three formats.
Earlier reports also show that Australia’s upcoming white-ball tour may be the final international outings for both Rohit and Kohli, who have already given a T20 Eye and Test. A meeting is expected to be held after the Asia Cup to call the matter. Interestingly, Iyer was among the top contenders for Iyer Asia Cup 2025 Squad but missed this new captaincy discussion conspiracy.

Why Shubman Gill is not considered for ODI captaincy?
The report further states that Gill has a great record And recently served as the vice-captain of the format. The source explained that initially, he considered him to make him a captain in all three formats, but the constant tournament schedule makes it impossible.
