BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla spoke to reporters on Friday about the new rules and guidelines being imposed by the board during IPL 2026.
Over the past few days, certain incidents had caught the attention of the board following which the BCCI prepared a new draft of guidelines for player and team conduct during the IPL.
Two days ago, BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia had written a seven-page document explaining the new guidelines and the consequences of non-compliance. After this he informed all the teams about this. Now Shukla has also spoken to journalists.

“Unauthorized incidents have come to light” – BCCI
In a written letter to the franchises, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia had said that such incidents have come to light which have reached the level of security violations.
The most important thing is that Rajasthan Royals manager Romi Bhinder was seen using a mobile phone in the dugout. After this, Royals captain Riyan Parag was caught vaping in the dressing room. But, according to Saikia, these are not the only examples.
“Instances have been observed of players and support staff leaving the team hotel at irregular hours without notifying the designated Security Liaison Officers (SLO) or Team Integrity Officer (TIO). Such departures create significant security vulnerabilities and put individuals at risk that cannot be mitigated if relevant personnel are not informed,” the advisory said.

BCCI will do spot investigation
In the same advisory, Saikia said that the board reserves the right to conduct spot checks to see whether the teams are following the protocols or not. The board also appeared concerned about certain incidents involving players’ girlfriends and their unrestricted movement with the team.
The BCCI advisory warned players to be alert to possible honey-traps and any legal liabilities that may arise from them.
“BCCI draws the attention of all franchises to the well-documented risks of targeted collusion and honey-trapping prevalent in high-profile sporting environments,” Saikia said in the advisory, according to the report.
“The possibility of incidents giving rise to serious legal charges, including under applicable laws on sexual misconduct, cannot be ruled out. IPL franchise management must remain vigilant and proactive in mitigating such risks at all times.”
